Chapter 7 - The Heist

Evelyn stared at Tessa's bruised, terrified face and immediately agreed to Sterling's demands.
Sterling assigned three heavily armed guards to escort Evelyn back to the foundation.
He explicitly warned Adrian that any rescue attempt would result in Tessa's immediate execution.
Evelyn was driven back to Manhattan in absolute, suffocating silence.
She used her employee keycard to unlock the heavy glass doors of the historical archive.
The dark, silent library felt completely different when surrounded by violent criminals.
She led the guards down to the underground vault where the oldest manuscripts were stored.
She opened the heavy steel door and pretended to search through a pile of dusty boxes.
Evelyn knew this vault intimately, including the ancient, heavy brass fire extinguisher hidden in the corner.
She quickly grabbed the heavy brass cylinder and swung it with all her might.
She struck the closest guard in the head, knocking him completely unconscious.
She grabbed his dropped pistol, relying on pure adrenaline and absolute desperation.
She fired two wild shots, miraculously hitting the other two guards in their legs.
They collapsed to the floor, screaming in agony as their weapons slid across the tiles.
Evelyn grabbed the crucial ledger and sprinted out of the building into the night.
She stole one of the guards' car keys and drove frantically back to the warehouse.

When she arrived, her heart completely stopped in her chest.
The entire warehouse was engulfed in massive, roaring flames that reached the sky.
