Chapter 4 - The Dark History
My commanding officer listened to my desperate situation without interrupting once.
He immediately contacted a high-ranking military JAG lawyer stationed at a nearby federal base.
The military attorney arrived at the corrupt local precinct within three hours.
He threatened to bring down a massive federal investigation if I was not released on bail immediately.
The local police chief panicked and processed my release paperwork before the sun even came up.
I walked out of the police station with my lawyer, but the victory felt incredibly hollow.
The corrupt judge had already signed an emergency restraining order against me.
I was legally forbidden from coming within five hundred feet of Diane, Wade, or my own children.
I checked into a cheap motel on the edge of town to plan my next tactical move.
I hired a ruthless private investigator to dig into the background of Wade’s wealthy family.
I told the investigator to focus entirely on the name Patricia, the woman Wade's father had scolded.
Two agonizing days passed while I paced the motel room waiting for answers.
The investigator finally arrived at my door carrying a thick manila folder filled with sealed court documents.
He looked completely sick to his stomach as he handed me the file.
“Wade was married once before he met Diane,” the investigator explained quietly.
He told me that Wade had an eight-year-old stepson during his first marriage.
The young boy had mysteriously vanished during a family camping trip seven years ago.
The local police ruled it a tragic accidental drowning, but they never recovered a body.
I flipped to the final page of the report and felt a chill crawl up my spine.
The presiding judge who quickly sealed the drowning case was Wade’s own father.
Wade had killed a child before, and his powerful family had perfectly covered up the murder.
I realized that Tommy was not just in danger of being abused.

My son was in immediate danger of being permanently erased.
My burner phone suddenly vibrated with a text message from an unknown number.
