Chapter 9 - The Double Cross

Nora Whitman walked toward us with a chilling, victorious smile on her face.

She was not carrying a bloody briefcase, and she did not look like a victim in any way.

I realized with absolute horror that Nora had been the mastermind behind this entire nightmare from the very beginning.

She laughed at my shocked expression and complimented me on being so incredibly naive.

Nora revealed that she had intentionally manipulated my parents into massive debt to ruin the Kingsley empire.

She had designed my protective trust with specific legal loopholes that only she could access as the executor.

She planned to have my family killed by the syndicate so she could legally seize my three million dollars for herself.

I yelled at her, stating that the FBI was listening to every word and was about to raid the building.

Nora simply smirked and pulled a small, flashing electronic device from her pocket.

She explained that it was a military-grade signal jammer that completely blocked all wireless frequencies.

The FBI tactical team outside could not hear a single word of our conversation, and my wire was entirely useless.

Nora turned to my father and handed him a heavy, loaded pistol.

She told him that the only way he was leaving this warehouse alive was if he eliminated the final heir to the trust.

She ordered my father to throw me off the high industrial balcony to make it look like a tragic, stress-induced suicide.

My father looked at the gun, then looked at me with sweat pouring down his pale face.

I pleaded with him, reminding him that I was his own flesh and blood.

He raised the gun, his eyes filling with a cold, desperate greed that erased any shred of parental love.

He whispered that he was truly sorry, but he refused to spend the rest of his life in a federal prison.

My father lunged at me with terrifying speed, trying to grab my throat and push me toward the deadly ledge.
