Chapter 4 - The Cornered Rat

Julian pulled the window blinds down, plunging the office into artificial shadows.

He looked absolutely nothing like the polished, charismatic executive featured in business magazines.

His tie was loose, his hair was disheveled, and panic radiated from his every movement.

He demanded that I hand over my mobile phone immediately.

He told me the board was already organizing an emergency vote of no confidence.

He intended to use my phone to send a retraction to the entire executive group chat.

I took a step back, slipping my phone securely into my jacket pocket.

I reminded him that destroying his career was only the first step in my plan.

Julian laughed loudly, a harsh and grating sound that echoed off the glass walls.

He proudly declared that the board could never legally terminate his employment.

He explained that he had signed a secret restructuring clause just yesterday afternoon.

Through a complex web of shell companies, he now held fifty-one percent of the voting power.

He believed he was entirely untouchable.

He stepped closer, trying to intimidate me with his physical presence.

"I own this entire company, and I own everything you have," he threatened.

But my phone vibrated in my pocket, revealing a text message from an unknown number.

"He doesn't know about the proxy vote," the message read.
