Chapter 3 - The Blackmail

I stared at the heavy folder, recognizing the red corporate seal stamped on the front.

Camila tapped her perfectly manicured nails against the expensive wood desk.

She explained that Julian had been funneling millions into hidden offshore accounts for two years.

She knew about it because she was the one executing the wire transfers.

She had deliberately left a paper trail that completely bypassed Julian's name.

Instead, she had cleverly routed the authorization codes through my inactive executive profile.

If the federal investigators looked at the data, it would appear that I was the mastermind.

Camila demanded that I publicly retract the photograph and claim my phone was hacked.

She wanted me to issue a statement apologizing for the false deepfake image.

If I refused, she would hand the folder directly to the federal agents waiting downstairs.

I looked at the forged digital signatures, my mind racing through possible defensive maneuvers.

She truly believed she had trapped me in an impossible corner.

I picked up the folder and smiled at her.

I told her she was severely underestimating how much I actually knew about this company.

Then, the heavy office door clicked shut behind me.

Julian stood there, his eyes cold and completely devoid of the man I had married.

"You really should have just stayed asleep, Victoria," he whispered as he locked the door.
