Chapter 2 - The Morning After

I stared at my reflection in the mirror as the sun began to rise.

The words of Chairman Davis echoed in my mind like a warning siren.

Federal investigators did not show up unannounced because of an extramarital affair.

Julian had clearly been hiding something much darker than his relationship with Camila.

I grabbed my keys and drove straight to the corporate headquarters downtown.

The glass lobby was swarming with nervous employees holding coffee cups.

Security guards stood near the elevators, checking badges with unusual intensity.

I bypassed the main desk and used my executive keycard to access the private lift.

My heart pounded a steady rhythm as the numbers climbed to the top floor.

I needed to secure the original founding documents from my private safe.

If Julian was going down for financial crimes, I had to ensure my name was insulated.

I pushed open the heavy mahogany doors to the executive suite.

I expected to find absolute chaos or investigators tearing the place apart.

Instead, I found her.

Camila sat behind my husband's massive mahogany desk, sipping an iced latte.

She wore a smug, radiant smile that made my blood boil.

She reached into her designer bag and pulled out a thick manila folder.

She slid the heavy folder across the polished wood toward me.

"I am so glad you sent that photo, Victoria, because now they will never look at where the real money went."
