Chapter 6 - The Trojan Horse

The heavy click of the gun's hammer cocking backward sounded like a deafening explosion in the confined space of the SUV.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, refusing to give the corrupt agent the satisfaction of seeing me beg.

"You are making a fatal mistake if you pull that trigger, Agent Davis," a sharp, authoritative voice suddenly commanded.

The driver's side window shattered violently as the barrel of an assault rifle smashed through the thick glass.

Agent Davis dropped his handgun in sheer panic as a team of heavily armed SWAT officers completely surrounded the vehicle.

The real FBI had successfully tracked the GPS locator Elena had secretly slipped into my coat pocket during the bank chaos.

An honest, high-ranking federal commander ripped the car door open and dragged the corrupt agent out onto the pavement.

"Are you injured, ma'am?" the commander asked gently as he unlocked the heavy steel handcuffs from my bruised wrists.

"I am perfectly fine, but my mother-in-law just confessed to the brutal murder of my father," I reported rapidly.

"She also stole what she believes is the master evidence drive containing all of their financial crimes."

The commander looked extremely concerned and immediately reached for his tactical radio to dispatch units to the corporate office.

"If they destroy that drive, we might lose the crucial evidence needed to secure a federal conviction," he warned grimly.

I stepped out of the vehicle and wiped the tears from my face, a dark, victorious smile slowly forming on my lips.

"They are not going to destroy the evidence, Commander, because that drive does not contain a single financial document."

Elena pulled up to the alleyway in her sedan, jumping out of the car with her tablet glowing brightly in her hands.

"The drive Marlene stole is actually a highly aggressive, custom-built Trojan horse malware program," my attorney announced proudly.

I had meticulously designed the virus during my sleepless nights, anticipating that Derek would eventually try to steal my physical backups.

"The moment Derek plugs that silver drive into his office computer, it will silently duplicate his entire hard drive directly to our cloud."

"After the copying process is complete, the malware will initiate a fake system wipe to make him believe he is completely safe."

The federal commander stared at me with immense respect, realizing he was dealing with a brilliant forensic accountant, not a helpless victim.

Elena tapped the screen of her tablet and turned it around so we could all see the active progress bar.

"Marlene just arrived at the corporate office, and the Trojan horse has officially breached their master server firewall," Elena confirmed.

"We have exactly thirty minutes to get to the boardroom before Derek attempts to finalize the ten-million-dollar federal transfer."

I borrowed a tactical jacket from one of the SWAT officers to cover my pajamas and climbed into the commander's armored vehicle.

"Let us go to the morning investor meeting and give my husband the surprise of his miserable life," I declared fiercely.
