Chapter 8 - The Great Escape

Panic seized my throat as Donald confidently walked out of the interrogation room, leaving me completely paralyzed with fear.
Vance didn't waste a single second, immediately pulling out a thick manila folder and slamming it onto the table.
"He thinks he's ten steps ahead, but he doesn't know I just handed the authorities the audio of Brenda's confession," Vance said quickly.
"The judge just signed your release forms, and they are already moving to freeze Donald's passports."
We sprinted out of the precinct, the crisp evening air hitting my face as I jumped back into Vance's vehicle.
Vance had placed a GPS tracker on Donald's car while he was inside mocking me, and a red dot blinked furiously on the dashboard screen.
"He's heading toward the old industrial airfield on the edge of town," Vance noted, slamming his foot onto the gas pedal.
We tore through the city streets, running red lights and swerving through traffic in a desperate race against time.
If Donald's plane took off, I would never see my son or my parents again.
We arrived at the airfield just as a sleek, private jet was taxiing onto the main runway, its engines roaring in the dark.
Vance drove right through the chain-link fence, ignoring the sparks and flying debris.
He swerved directly into the path of the jet, forcing the pilot to slam on the brakes to avoid a massive collision.
I didn't wait for the car to fully stop before I threw open the door and sprinted toward the plane's boarding stairs.
I shoved past a bewildered flight attendant and charged into the luxurious cabin, screaming my son's name.
The cabin was mostly empty, completely devoid of Donald, Keaton, or my parents.
Instead, sitting quietly in a leather seat with a glass of champagne, was a beautiful blonde woman.
It was Ashley, Donald's supposed mistress, and she looked up at me with an expression of profound boredom.
"You really are easy to distract, Alisha," she said, taking a slow sip of her drink.
"Donald isn't here, and neither is your precious family."
May you like
Ashley smiled coldly, leaning forward to deliver the final crushing blow.
"This was just a decoy flight, and Donald took your son to the one place you would never think to look."
