Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Freedom

I held the heavy revolver, feeling the cold steel against my palm as I looked at my sobbing son.
He had taken my home, plotted my ruin, and murdered the man I loved.
I slowly raised the barrel of the gun and aimed it directly at his chest.
The room was dead silent, waiting for the explosive crack of the weapon.
I turned on my heel and slammed the butt of the gun brutally into the cartel boss's jaw.
He collapsed to the floor instantly as Jack drew his weapon and fired at the ceiling.
"The FBI is swarming the building right now!" Jack roared at the stunned guards.
The distant wail of a dozen police sirens echoed down the street, proving Jack wasn't bluffing.
The guards panicked, abandoning their unconscious boss and fleeing out the emergency fire exits.
I walked over to David, grabbed a pocket knife from the desk, and cut his thick plastic ties.
"Get out of my sight, and if you ever come near this company again, I will give the flash drive to the police," I warned him coldly.
David scrambled out of the room like a terrified rat, banished from the empire he tried to steal.
The police stormed the building moments later, arresting the cartel boss and recovering the stolen funds.
By sunrise, Robert was dragged out of his penthouse in handcuffs, charged with my husband's murder.
The nightmare was finally over, and the company was completely safe in my control.
I sat alone in my husband's restored office, watching the morning sun illuminate the city skyline.
I pulled open the bottom drawer of his mahogany desk to place a framed photo of him inside.
My hand brushed against a sealed, dusty envelope hidden beneath a false bottom in the wood.
My name was written across the front in my husband's distinct, elegant handwriting.

I tore the seal open and unfolded the single piece of paper hidden inside.
The note read: "If you are reading this, the cartel knows you found the money, and they are coming back to silence you."
