Chapter 9 - The Ghost Protocol

The beautiful, peaceful morning on the balcony instantly shattered into a million terrifying pieces.

Arthur gripped his cell phone so tightly his knuckles turned completely white, his new heart pounding a strong, rapid rhythm in his chest.

"How did you escape maximum security?" Arthur demanded, his voice dangerously low.

Vanessa laughed again, the sound crackling through the international connection.

"Money can buy absolutely anything, Arthur," she mocked smoothly.

"Even though you froze my primary accounts, you completely forgot about the hidden crypto wallet I set up under my maiden name."

"I bought my freedom, and now I am using the rest of the funds to buy your ultimate destruction."

Arthur stared out at the sprawling gardens, his eyes locking onto Caleb and Mia, who were completely unaware of the renewed danger.

"If you come anywhere near this property, my security team will completely obliterate you," Arthur warned fiercely.

"I am not coming for the house, darling," Vanessa sneered, her voice dripping with lethal confidence.

"I am sending an elite team of heavily armed professionals to intercept you at the corporate gala tonight."

"It will be a spectacular, highly public execution, and there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop it."

The line went completely dead, leaving Arthur standing in the suffocating silence of the balcony.

He knew Vanessa was genuinely psychotic enough to attempt a massive public assassination.

Arthur immediately called his lead security contractor, Vance, and initiated a total lockdown of the estate.

Vance arrived ten minutes later, his face grim and highly focused.

"We need to cancel your appearance at the corporate gala immediately, Boss," Vance advised strongly.

"If she hired cartel professionals, they will completely flood the venue with heavily armed shooters."

Arthur shook his head slowly, a cold, calculating determination settling deeply into his features.

"If I cancel, she will simply attack us here at the house and put Caleb and Mia at massive risk," Arthur explained rationally.

"We are going to use the gala as the perfect, controlled trap to eliminate her threat permanently."

Vance frowned, clearly uncomfortable with the incredibly dangerous strategy.

"It is a massive risk, Arthur," Vance warned.

"I have survived a failing heart, a lethal poisoning, and a treacherous wife," Arthur stated confidently.

"I am not going to spend the rest of my life hiding in fear."

Arthur spent the next six hours meticulously planning the ultimate ambush with his elite security team.

They transformed the downtown ballroom into a highly fortified, perfectly disguised tactical kill zone.

Every single waiter, bartender, and valet was secretly replaced by heavily armed private military contractors.

At eight o'clock that evening, Arthur arrived at the gala in a heavily armored limousine, wearing a custom-tailored tuxedo lined with lightweight ballistic Kevlar.

He walked confidently into the massive, crowded ballroom, immediately drawing the attention of every wealthy socialite in the room.

The classical music played softly, creating a surreal, elegant atmosphere that completely masked the impending violence.

Arthur stood near the center of the room, sipping a glass of sparkling water, waiting patiently for the assassins to strike.

At exactly nine o'clock, the heavy glass doors of the ballroom violently exploded inward.

Six men dressed in completely black tactical gear stormed into the room, raising automatic weapons toward the ceiling.

The wealthy guests screamed in absolute terror, diving frantically under tables and scrambling toward the emergency exits.

"Nobody move!" the lead assassin roared, his eyes instantly locking onto Arthur.

Arthur did not flinch, standing perfectly still amidst the chaotic panic.

The assassins raised their weapons, preparing to unleash a devastating barrage of bullets directly at his chest.

But before they could fire a single shot, the seemingly innocent waiters and bartenders immediately drew concealed submachine guns from beneath their serving trays.

Vance stepped out from behind a massive ice sculpture, raising a heavy assault rifle.

"Drop your weapons immediately, or you will be completely annihilated," Vance commanded loudly.

The assassins froze, completely surrounded and entirely outgunned by Arthur's perfectly positioned security team.

They realized instantly that they had walked directly into a massive, inescapable trap.

The lead assassin slowly lowered his weapon, dropping it onto the marble floor with a heavy thud.

The rest of the team quickly followed suit, raising their hands in absolute surrender.

Vance's men swiftly moved in, kicking the weapons away and violently wrestling the assassins to the ground.

Arthur let out a slow, steady breath, feeling completely vindicated by his flawless tactical victory.

He walked calmly over to the lead assassin, looking down at the defeated mercenary with absolute contempt.

"Where is Vanessa hiding?" Arthur demanded coldly.

The assassin laughed, spitting blood onto the pristine marble floor.

"You really think she would trust us with her location?" the mercenary sneered.

"She is miles away, watching this entire thing on a secure live feed."

Arthur frowned, suddenly realizing the horrific flaw in his brilliant plan.

If Vanessa was not with the assassination team, she was completely free to attack her actual, primary target.

Arthur's cell phone suddenly vibrated in his tuxedo pocket.

He answered the call, his heart pounding a terrified rhythm against his ribs.

"Did you really think I would waste my time attacking you in a crowded room, Arthur?" Vanessa's voice echoed through the phone.

"I just wanted to make sure your security team was completely distracted."

"Say goodbye to your precious new family."

May you like

Arthur heard the sound of breaking glass and a terrified scream from Caleb through the phone speaker.

Vanessa was not at the gala; she was actively breaching the heavily unguarded estate.
