Chapter 6 - The Sabotage

My heart stopped completely at Elena's terrifying words.

"Did they get near the babies?" I demanded, trying to force myself out of the bed.

Elena gently pushed me back down and shook her head reassuringly.

"The private security guards caught the man before he could even badge into the wing."

"They have him detained in a holding room right now, waiting for the police."

I let out a ragged breath and looked at Daniel, who was already dialing his phone.

"I want the security footage pulled immediately," Daniel ordered the person on the other end of the line.

Ten minutes later, Daniel returned to my bedside with a grim expression on his face.

He held up his tablet to show me a clear still image of the captured intruder.

I stared at the screen and felt a cold shiver run down my spine.

It was the same truck driver who had crashed into my car two days ago.

"He was not wearing scrubs to steal the babies, Mara," Daniel explained darkly.

"He was wearing scrubs because he was trying to sneak into your room to finish the job."

I closed my eyes as the terrifying reality of the situation washed over me.

My sister had paid this man to kill me, and he had failed during the car crash.

Now he was desperate to silence me before the police connected him to the offshore accounts.

"We need to get you and the twins out of this hospital immediately," Daniel stated.

"I have a private medical transport ready to take you to a secure, undisclosed location."

I nodded in agreement, knowing that my family would stop at nothing to get my money.

Elena quickly packed my few belongings into a small duffel bag.

She carefully moved my babies into portable car seats, completely avoiding the large windows.

We were escorted down the freight elevator by a team of heavily armed security personnel.

The armored transport van was waiting for us in the underground parking garage.

Just as the guards loaded my stretcher into the back of the van, the garage lights flickered and died.

A loud gunshot echoed through the pitch-black concrete cavern.
