Chapter 7 - The Desperate Move

The corrupt police chief began slowly pouring gasoline in a wide circle around the two women.
He laughed mockingly, loudly bragging about how his badge made running the cartel operations completely effortless.
He demanded to know where the federal agent was hiding with the encrypted flash drive.
Dorothy looked the chief directly in the eyes and spat a mouthful of blood onto his polished shoes.
The chief wiped his face in pure rage and pulled a silver lighter from his uniform pocket.
I knew Alex was waiting for tactical backup, but I could not let my mother burn.
I grabbed a heavy iron pipe from the floor and sprinted out from behind the wooden crates.
I swung the heavy metal weapon with every ounce of strength I possessed.
The pipe struck the police chief directly in the ribs, sending him crashing onto the concrete floor.
I immediately dropped the weapon and pulled a pocket knife to cut my mother’s ropes.
Before I could slice through the thick knots, a massive hand grabbed me by the back of my neck.
The chief slammed my face violently into the concrete pillar, causing my vision to blur.
He pressed the hot barrel of his service weapon directly against my temple.
Alex stepped out from the shadows, dropping his gun to the floor and raising his empty hands.
The chief smiled wickedly, declaring that he would finally end this pathetic federal investigation.

Suddenly, the massive front doors of the warehouse were violently ripped entirely off their hinges.
A heavily armored SWAT vehicle crashed through the entrance, crushing the wooden crates into splinters.
