Chapter 6 - The Trap

Alex screamed and violently tackled me backward onto the wet pavement.

We dove behind a massive stack of concrete barriers just as the timer hit zero.

The shipping container exploded in a blinding, deafening flash of white-hot fire.

The sheer force of the shockwave knocked the breath completely out of my lungs.

Jagged pieces of burning metal rained down around us, scorching the damp concrete.

Before the smoke could even clear, heavily armed mercenaries emerged from the shadows of the harbor.

They opened fire on our position, shredding the concrete barriers with a relentless hail of bullets.

Alex blindly returned fire with his pistol, desperately trying to keep the gunmen pinned down.

He pointed toward a rusted metal door on the side of a large warehouse directly behind us.

He told me to run on his count of three while he provided cover fire.

I sprinted through the chaotic storm of bullets, my heart pounding violently against my ribs.

I crashed through the rusted metal door and tumbled into the dark, silent warehouse.

Alex dove in right behind me and quickly slammed the heavy steel deadbolts into place.

We crept through the dark building, hiding behind massive wooden shipping crates.

I peeked around a tall crate and gasped at the horrifying sight in the center of the room.

My mother and Dorothy were tied tightly to concrete pillars, looking bruised and terrified.

Standing directly in front of them was the local chief of police, holding a silver gasoline can.
