Chapter 9 - The Final Stand

I forcefully shoved the FBI agent backward and screamed for David to grab the child.

David reacted instantly, sweeping the agent's legs and knocking him hard onto the wooden dock.

I snatched the agent's dropped rifle and aimed it directly at the rest of the federal strike team.

I realized with absolute horror that the entire rescue operation was completely compromised.

The syndicate had successfully infiltrated the highest levels of federal law enforcement.

The remaining agents immediately raised their weapons, surrounding us entirely on the isolated dock.

David stood in front of Lily, shielding her small body with his own heavily bleeding torso.

The fake federal commander stepped forward and ordered us to surrender the biological weapon immediately.

He claimed that if we handed over the child, they would let us walk away alive.

I knew that was a pathetic, bold-faced lie from a desperate, cornered monster.

I tightened my grip on the rifle and prepared to fight to the absolute bitter end.

Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the nearby shipping yard, lighting the night sky on fire.

A convoy of unmarked black tactical vans completely smashed through the harbor security gates.

Dozens of highly trained rogue operatives poured out of the vans and immediately engaged the corrupt federal agents.

A brutal, deafening firefight erupted instantly across the entire harbor.

I used the chaotic distraction to grab Lily and drag her behind a heavy steel shipping crate.

David provided flawless covering fire, dropping three corrupt agents before they could even aim.

We navigated the brutal warzone, using the dark shadows to completely mask our escape route.

We finally reached a stolen, armored police transport vehicle hidden near the edge of the perimeter.

I threw David and Lily into the back and slammed my foot heavily onto the gas pedal.

We crashed through the final barricade and sped wildly into the dark, empty city streets.

I looked in the rearview mirror and saw no headlights following us in the rain.
