Chapter 7 - The Inside Man

Miller smiled a cold, unforgiving smile as he pressed the gun harder against my skull.

He whispered that the dead body in the precinct lobby was just a carefully dressed decoy.

He had faked his own death to completely avoid the massive internal investigation that was coming.

David immediately spun around and aimed his rifle at Miller, creating a deadly, tense standoff.

Miller laughed softly and told David to drop the weapon, or he would blow my brains out.

I locked eyes with David and gave him a tiny, almost imperceptible nod to take the shot.

Instead of firing, David slowly lowered his rifle and dropped it onto the wet concrete.

I stared at David in complete disbelief, realizing he was giving up our only tactical advantage.

Miller smirked triumphantly and ordered us to kick our weapons into the dark water.

We complied, leaving ourselves completely defenseless against the corrupt detective.

Miller grabbed my tactical vest and shoved me aggressively toward the waiting black helicopter.

The fake Claire smiled wickedly as we approached, pushing a terrified Lily into the back seat.

I looked at the little girl, and her eyes were completely red and swollen from crying.

She was sweating profusely, meaning the lethal toxin was secreting heavily through her pores.

Miller climbed into the helicopter and ordered the pilot to take off immediately.

He boasted that they were going to drop Lily into the city's main water reservoir tonight.

The toxin would effortlessly kill tens of thousands of innocent people by morning.

I knew I absolutely could not let this helicopter leave the ground.

I unbuckled my seatbelt and lunged violently across the cabin to wrap my hands around Miller's throat.

Miller gasped in shock and accidentally pulled the trigger of his weapon.

The stray bullet shattered the front windshield and struck the pilot directly in the neck.
