Chapter 2 - The Unfair Manager

The massive brown bugs crawled rapidly over her bare stomach and legs.
The woman shrieked hysterically, thrashing her arms and kicking her legs to get them off.
Her boyfriend jumped out of his chair, knocking over his expensive cocktail in the process.
The bugs scattered across the wet concrete and disappeared into the nearby bushes.
The resort employee stood there with a look of perfect, practiced innocence.
He apologized loudly, claiming the box must have been left outside near the garden by mistake.
The woman was breathing heavily, her face completely red with embarrassment and sheer rage.
She pointed a shaking manicured finger directly at the employee.
She screamed that he had done it on purpose and demanded to see the general manager immediately.
Within three minutes, a tall man in a sharp grey suit hurried onto the pool deck.
He introduced himself as Mr. Henderson, the resort's general manager.
The woman began yelling so loudly that other guests started packing up their things to leave.
She claimed the employee was a malicious psychopath who intentionally assaulted her with insects.
Mr. Henderson looked incredibly nervous and tried to offer her a complimentary spa package to calm her down.
The woman refused the offer and violently pointed her finger toward where Mia and I were sitting.
She told the manager that we were the ones who orchestrated the attack.
She lied and said I had threatened her earlier because I was jealous of her pool chairs.
Mr. Henderson turned his stern gaze toward me and Mia.
I stood up immediately, holding Mia behind my legs to protect her from the woman's wrath.
I explained that we had not done anything wrong and that she was the one who stole our reserved spot.
The woman's boyfriend stepped forward, puffing out his chest to look physically intimidating.
He told the manager that I was a hysterical, unhinged mother who used her sick child to get free things.
My blood boiled, and I demanded that Mr. Henderson check the reservation tags we had left on the chairs.
Mr. Henderson walked over to the trash can and pulled out the tags bearing our exact room number.
I thought this evidence would finally prove our innocence and end the nightmare.
Instead, Mr. Henderson crumpled the tags in his hand and looked at me with cold authority.
He told me that my behavior was unacceptable and that I was making his premium guests feel unsafe.
He ordered me to pack my bags and vacate the resort premises within the hour.
I was absolutely stunned, unable to comprehend how the victim was being punished.
I asked him how he could possibly side with a woman who had just terrorized a child recovering from cancer.
May you like
Mr. Henderson leaned in close and lowered his voice so only I could hear.
He whispered that the man standing next to the woman was not just a regular guest.
