Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Karma

The doctor let out a relieved sigh and explained the bizarre anomaly on the first scan.

He told me that the initial reading was simply a rare, completely harmless artifact caused by a calibration error on the machine.

He confirmed that the secondary, high-resolution MRI showed absolutely no brain damage, no internal bleeding, and no tumors.

Furthermore, he proudly announced that the comprehensive blood work confirmed Mia was one hundred percent cancer-free and healthier than she had been in years.

I collapsed into Arthur Sterling's arms, weeping tears of pure, unadulterated joy and overwhelming relief.

The doctor led us into Mia's private recovery room, where she was already sitting up in bed and drinking apple juice.

She had a thick white bandage wrapped around her head, but her smile was as bright and beautiful as ever.

I ran to her bedside, kissing her cheeks and holding her small hands tightly in mine.

Arthur Sterling approached the bed and gently handed Mia a shiny, solid gold card.

He announced that the card was a permanent, all-expenses-paid VIP pass to every single resort he owned around the entire world.

He promised Mia that she would never have to worry about a stolen pool chair ever again.

The next morning, Mia was officially discharged from the hospital with a clean bill of health.

We watched the local news in our hotel room, smiling as the reporter detailed the complete downfall and arrest of Brad and Cassandra.

Justice had finally been served, and our nightmare was officially replaced by a bright, beautiful future.

We packed our bags, checked out of the resort, and drove happily back to our quiet suburban neighborhood.

I carried our luggage up the front steps of our house, completely exhausted but overwhelmingly grateful.

As I unlocked the front door, I noticed a sleek, unmarked black envelope resting perfectly on our welcome mat.

I picked it up, opened the wax seal, and pulled out a high-resolution photograph of Mia sleeping in her hospital bed from just hours ago.

Written on the back of the photo in thick red marker was a single, terrifying sentence.

You ruined my life and sent me to jail, but I am out now, and I am coming for her.
