Chapter 4 - The Twisted Obsession

Clara screamed at the top of her lungs and wrapped her arms fiercely and protectively around her fragile newborn son.
The stern woman from Child Protective Services looked genuinely sympathetic but did not take a single step back.
"Mrs. Linwood, the court document you signed grants full, uncontested medical and physical custody to the father," the worker explained firmly.
Clara cried out desperately that the signature was obtained through vicious, calculated fraud and absolute deceit.
Samantha simply laughed, slowly walking closer to the hospital bed with her hands reaching out to grab the child.
"Gabriel doesn't even want this screaming little burden, but I certainly do," Samantha sneered coldly.
Clara stared at her husband's cruel mistress in absolute, horrifying confusion.
Samantha leaned down incredibly closely, her expensive floral perfume masking the sterile hospital scent.
"I am completely barren, Clara, and Gabriel promised me a perfect little heir to secure his family trust fund," she whispered directly into Clara's ear.
The sickening truth finally hit Clara like a heavy physical blow to her exhausted, recovering body.
They didn't just want to hurt her emotionally; they had planned to steal her child from the very beginning of the pregnancy.
The CPS worker stepped forward again, gently but firmly asking Clara to peacefully surrender the tiny infant.
Clara prepared to physically fight them to the absolute death, completely ignoring the tearing pain in her fresh surgical incision.
Suddenly, Mr. Hayes burst into the hospital room frantically waving a bright red legal folder high in the air.
"I have an emergency federal injunction signed by a superior appellate judge!" he shouted breathlessly.
The CPS worker paused and carefully read the heavily stamped document handed to her by the lawyer.
She nodded slowly and informed Samantha that the custody transfer was temporarily halted pending a severe fraud investigation.
Samantha's arrogant, victorious smile vanished instantly, replaced by a mask of pure, unhinged fury.
She glared at Mr. Hayes and completely promised that this minor legal delay would not stop her master plan.
The CPS worker escorted a furious and screaming Samantha out into the brightly lit hospital hallway.
Mr. Hayes locked the heavy door behind them and let out a massive, entirely exhausted sigh of relief.
"We bought ourselves exactly forty-eight hours to mathematically prove Gabriel manipulated that contract," he explained.
Clara thanked him profusely, gently rocking her sleeping baby back to a calm and peaceful state.
But a sudden, terrifying shadow quickly passed over the frosted glass window of her private room.

Someone slowly slid a folded piece of crisp white paper underneath the heavy wooden door.
Clara opened it and found a chilling message that read: "If I cannot have him, neither will you."
