Chapter 3 - The Premature Arrival

The agonizing, blinding pain in Clara's stomach completely drowned out the chaotic screaming inside the courtroom.
Mr. Hayes desperately caught her by the shoulders before she could violently fall out of her chair.
Judge Holloway immediately suspended the hearing and shouted for someone to call an emergency ambulance right away.
Violet ran across the room and tightly hugged Clara's leg, weeping uncontrollably into the fabric of her maternity dress.
Clara tried her hardest to comfort the brave little girl, but another brutal contraction stole the breath directly from her lungs.
Paramedics burst through the heavy courtroom doors with a rolling stretcher and a large bag of medical supplies.
They quickly lifted Clara onto the stretcher and strapped her down securely for the frantic ride to the hospital.
Mr. Hayes promised he would take Violet to a safe location and immediately file an emergency injunction against the forged document.
The blaring siren of the ambulance echoed loudly through the busy city streets as Clara fought desperately to keep her eyes open.
The paramedics shouted intense medical codes into their radios, noting that her blood pressure was dropping dangerously low.
When they finally crashed through the emergency room doors, a highly trained team of specialized nurses took over.
Clara was wheeled directly into an emergency operating theater beneath blinding white surgical lights.
The head doctor informed her that the toxic pills had severely distressed the baby's fragile heart rate.
They had absolutely no choice but to perform an emergency cesarean section right that very minute to save his life.
Clara squeezed her eyes shut and prayed silently for the safety of the tiny life growing inside her.
When she finally woke up hours later, the completely sterile smell of the hospital room filled her nose.
A gentle nurse was standing right by her bed, holding a remarkably small bundle wrapped safely in a striped blanket.
Clara wept tears of pure, unadulterated joy as the nurse placed her beautiful, fragile newborn son against her chest.
He was breathing completely on his own, entirely perfectly formed despite arriving four long weeks early.
She softly kissed his warm forehead and promised that she would never let Gabriel hurt him ever again.
But her peaceful, beautiful moment was violently shattered when the heavy wooden door to her recovery room swung open.
A stern woman wearing a gray business suit walked in with a heavy clipboard clutched tightly in her hands.
Standing directly behind the woman was Samantha, smiling with a terrifyingly predatory look in her dark eyes.

"I am with Child Protective Services, and I am here to execute the legal custody transfer of this infant," the stern woman announced.
Samantha stepped forward and held out her manicured arms to take the crying baby completely away from Clara.
