Chapter 15 - The Unlikely Alliance

Clara sat in the dark, silent living room of her empty house, staring blankly at the scattered toys on the carpet. The agonizing silence was entirely deafening. Victoria Vance had taken her son, and Violet remained locked in the cold, bureaucratic maze of the state foster system.
Julian paced aggressively across the hardwood floor, speaking rapidly on a burner phone. He was pulling every single dark favor he had from his days working undercover, desperately searching for any leverage against his mother's massive corporate empire.
Mr. Hayes sat at the kitchen table, buried under a mountain of legal documents, his face pale with deep exhaustion. "Victoria has completely bought the judge, the police chief, and the CPS director. We cannot fight her in a courtroom. It is mathematically impossible to win against endless money."
Suddenly, Clara’s personal cell phone vibrated violently against the coffee table. She reached for it numbly, expecting another taunting message from Victoria's legal team.
Instead, the screen displayed a highly restricted, encrypted prison phone number. Clara answered the call cautiously, her voice entirely raspy from days of endless crying.
"Clara, do not hang up this phone," a sharp, familiar voice whispered urgently through the receiver.
Clara’s blood ran cold. It was Samantha Drake, calling from the maximum-security women's correctional facility.
"You have exactly thirty seconds before the guards cut this line," Samantha hissed rapidly. "Gabriel completely betrayed me. He took a secret payoff deal from a billionaire woman named Vance, and he left me to rot in this hellhole for thirty years."
Clara gripped the phone tightly, her knuckles turning completely white. "Why are you calling me, Samantha? You tried to steal my baby, you tried to kill me!"
"Because Victoria Vance is going to betray Gabriel too, but she doesn't realize I still have his insurance policy," Samantha countered with a desperate, venomous laugh. "Before we got arrested, Gabriel was secretly blackmailing Victoria. He had proof of how she really built her empire. If you want your baby back, you need to come see me tomorrow."
The line instantly went dead, leaving a dial tone echoing loudly in the quiet room.
Clara quickly relayed the shocking conversation to Julian and Mr. Hayes. Julian completely froze, his dark eyes widening with a sudden, terrifying realization.
"My mother’s empire is built on a massive, hidden ledger of corporate espionage, illegal offshore bribes, and political blackmail," Julian explained grimly. "If Gabriel somehow found that ledger, it is the only thing on earth that could send Victoria Vance to federal prison and destroy her entire dynasty."
Mr. Hayes slammed his hand on the table with renewed, fierce determination. "If we can find that ledger, we don't need to win in family court. We can force the federal government to tear her empire to the ground and return your son."

Clara stood up slowly, the paralyzing grief suddenly burning away into absolute, unadulterated fury. She was no longer just a victim trying to survive; she was a mother prepared to burn the entire world to the ground to save her children.
"Arrange the prison visit, Mr. Hayes," Clara commanded, her voice entirely devoid of fear. "I am going to make a deal with the devil."
