Chapter 7 - The Blood Match

I snapped the mercenary's neck and rushed back into the shattered motel room.

Clara was bleeding from a cut on her forehead, but she had managed to hide Lily in the bathroom.

We stole one of the mercenaries' black SUVs and sped away into the night.

I drove toward an underground clinic run by a disgraced surgeon named Vance who owed me his life.

Vance took us into a sterile basement and immediately hooked Clara up to an IV.

I paced the floor, trying to understand why a wealthy cardiologist like Dr. Kaplan would hire a hit squad.

Vance examined Lily's medical records and the pills from the brown pharmacy bag.

He looked at me with an expression of pure horror.

He explained that Lily's genetic markers were incredibly rare, effectively making her a universal organ donor for a specific bloodline.

I asked Vance why Kaplan would care about that.

Vance pulled up a dark web medical database on his computer.

He showed me a billion-dollar bounty placed on a matching heart donor.

The bounty had been posted by Marco Bianchi.

Marco did not just want my company.

His own teenage son was dying of heart failure, and Marco had manipulated genetics for years to ensure Lily was born as the perfect biological spare part.
