Chapter 5 - The Frozen Empire

I carried Clara down the stairs while Lily held tightly to the back of my jacket.
I placed them in the stolen delivery van and drove toward a luxury hotel in Manhattan where I kept a private penthouse.
I needed to hire a private mercenary team to hunt Marco down before he realized David had failed to kill me.
I pulled out my secure encrypted phone to wire ten million dollars into an offshore tactical account.
A red error message flashed across the digital screen.
My access was completely denied.
I called my private banker in Zurich, demanding to know why my accounts were locked.
The banker's voice trembled as he explained the devastating legal reality.
Marco had just filed a medical power of attorney in federal court.
He had submitted forged documents from Dr. Kaplan claiming I had suffered irreversible brain damage on the sidewalk.
Marco had legally seized full control of my billion-dollar empire.
I threw the phone out the window of the moving van in sheer frustration.
We were completely broke, hunted, and driving a stolen vehicle in a city controlled by my enemy.
I pulled into a dark alleyway to hide the van and figure out a new plan.
Suddenly, the van's radio crackled with a police dispatch broadcast.

The dispatcher announced a citywide manhunt for a dangerous fugitive named Victor Moretti.
I had just been framed for the brutal murder of my own security chief in the hospital.
