Chapter 1 - The Missing Footage

I did not stay in the hospital bed.
I pulled the IV from the back of my hand the moment Dr. Kaplan turned his back.
My personal security chief, David, rushed into the room with a panicked expression.
He told me I needed to rest, but I demanded to see the security footage from the intersection.
I needed to know the identity of the little girl in the yellow dress.
David hesitated, shifting his weight nervously before handing me his tablet.
I watched myself collapse on the blistering Manhattan pavement.
I watched the crowd step back, pulling out their phones to record my potential death.
Then the tiny girl stepped forward with her brown pharmacy bag.
I paused the video and zoomed in on her face.
My breath caught in my throat as I stared at her bright, piercing green eyes.
They were the exact same unique shade of green as my own.
I told David to enhance the logo on the brown paper bag she left on the sidewalk.
It read "Queens Family Pharmacy" in faded red ink.
I ordered David to get the car ready so we could drive to Queens immediately.
David slowly reached into his tailored suit jacket.
He did not pull out the keys to my armored vehicle.

He pulled out a suppressed pistol and aimed it directly at my chest.
He whispered that my business partner, Marco Bianchi, would pay him ten million dollars to make sure I never found that little girl.
