Chapter 9 - The Final Sacrifice

Dominic did not flinch or beg for his life as the cold steel of the revolver pressed against his heart.

Instead, he suddenly kicked the heavy mahogany desk with bone-shattering force, driving it directly into Silas's knees.

Silas shrieked in pain, his finger slipping off the trigger as he stumbled backward, firing a wild shot into the ceiling.

Dominic dove gracefully across the floor, snatching a discarded pistol from the carpet and immediately firing two precise shots into the nearest guards.

I scrambled to my feet, ignoring the throbbing pain in my skull, and sprinted toward the balcony where the remaining guards were holding Lily.

Before I could reach them, Dominic pulled a small, sleek remote from his pocket and pressed a single red button.

The entire warehouse was instantly plunged into absolute, pitch-black darkness as Dominic triggered the emergency lockdown protocol he had designed years ago.

In the total darkness, the deafening roar of a chaotic, disorganized firefight echoed off the metal walls as Silas's men fired blindly at shadows.

I crawled on my hands and knees, following the sound of Lily's terrified crying until my fingers brushed against her small red coat.

I pulled her tightly into my arms, shielding her body with my own as bullets shredded the expensive leather furniture all around us.

The emergency backup lights suddenly flickered to life, bathing the ruined office in a harsh, pulsing red glow.

Silas was standing just a few feet away from us, his face covered in blood from his shattered nose, holding his silver revolver with trembling hands.

He looked wildly around the room, realized his men were mostly dead or incapacitated, and locked his deranged eyes directly on Lily.

He screamed that if he couldn't have the empire, he would make sure the Moretti bloodline suffered forever.

Silas pointed his weapon directly at my daughter's chest and pulled the trigger with a manic scream.

Dominic threw his entire body across the open space, stepping directly in front of the bullet just as the gun fired.

The heavy caliber round tore through Dominic's shoulder, spinning him violently around as a spray of blood painted the glass balcony doors.
