Chapter 4 - The Abandoned Warehouse

I did not tell Julian about the secret midnight meeting.
I took the ten thousand dollars, hid the leather binder in my backpack, and left work early.
I spent the entire evening making sure Chloe was locked safely inside our tiny apartment.
When the clock struck eleven, I grabbed a heavy metal flashlight for protection and left the house.
The address on the black card led me to an abandoned shipping warehouse near the city docks.
The building smelled heavily of rusted metal, saltwater, and decaying wood.
I pushed the heavy steel door open, the rusty hinges screaming loudly in the quiet night.
A single, bright spotlight illuminated the center of the massive, empty room.
Sitting under the blinding light was Julian, securely tied to a wooden chair with thick zip ties.
His face was bruised, and he was gagged with a piece of dirty cloth.
The elegant couple stepped out from the shadows, looking perfectly calm and unbothered.
The man congratulated me for being smart enough to follow their instructions.
The woman walked over and pulled the gag out of Julian's bleeding mouth.
Julian immediately started screaming, begging me to run away and call the police.

The man simply sighed, pulled a sleek silver handgun from his waistband, and handed it directly to me.
He told me that if I shot Julian right now, my sister's life would be permanently spared.
