Chapter 3 - The Hostile Return

My feet felt like they were glued to the restaurant floor.

Julian scrambled behind the host stand, visibly shaking with pure terror.

I knew I had to act completely normal to protect my sister from these dangerous people.

I grabbed two pristine menus and forced a polite, customer-service smile onto my face.

I walked the elegant couple back to the velvet booth where this entire nightmare began.

The woman slid gracefully into the seat, adjusting her expensive diamond necklace.

The man looked up at me with cold, calculating blue eyes that sent shivers down my spine.

He ordered two black coffees and asked how my morning was going.

I lied smoothly, claiming it was just another regular day at the restaurant.

He chuckled darkly and pulled a massive stack of hundred-dollar bills from his tailored suit jacket.

He placed ten thousand dollars in cash directly onto the table.

He told me that was my tip for covering their meal the night before.

I stared at the mountain of money, desperately needing it but terrified to touch it.

The woman leaned forward and handed me a small, black business card with an address printed on it.

She whispered that I needed to bring the leather binder to that address tonight at midnight.

If I failed to show up alone, they would pay a visit to Chloe's high school tomorrow morning.
