Chapter 7 - The Traitor's Airfield

I slammed my foot aggressively on the brakes, sending the heavy armored SUV skidding wildly across the wet asphalt. We came to a violent, screeching halt just mere inches from the heavily reinforced main gate of the private airfield. The massive, blinding floodlights of the long runway flicked on simultaneously, completely blinding us in the front seats. I shielded my sensitive eyes, realizing with a sinking heart that we had driven directly into a massive, meticulously calculated ambush. A dozen heavily armed guards stepped out slowly from the deep shadows, surrounding the vehicle entirely with their weapons raised. My wife, Sarah, walked elegantly toward the car, wearing an expensive designer trench coat and a cruel, victorious smile. She knocked sharply and condescendingly on my reinforced glass window with the cold barrel of her silver pistol. "Get out of the car, Victor, or my men will light it up with armor-piercing rounds until nothing is left," she ordered maliciously. I looked back at Elena, giving her a silent, desperate promise that I would find a way to fix this disaster. I slowly opened the heavy door and stepped out into the freezing rain with my hands raised in mock surrender. Two massive guards immediately grabbed my arms roughly, violently confiscating all of my hidden weapons and spare magazines. Sarah stepped closer, sensually tracing my tense jawline with her cold, perfectly manicured fingers. "You were always so foolishly loyal to the pathetic people who worked for you," she mocked smoothly, her eyes full of disdain. She explained that she had accidentally discovered Dante was alive during a supposed shopping trip to Europe five years ago. They had fallen deeply in love and meticulously planned this bloody coup to steal my entire criminal empire from the inside. Dante walked confidently out of the main aircraft hangar, holding a massive, heavy briefcase filled with untraceable bearer bonds. "The Russians have paid incredibly handsomely for the child, Victor," Dante announced with a triumphant, booming laugh. He callously ordered his armed men to drag Elena and Lily violently out of the protective backseat of the SUV. Lily screamed desperately for her mother as the rough guards ripped them violently apart on the wet tarmac. I struggled furiously against my captors, roaring in absolute, uncontrolled rage as I watched my family suffer. "I will hunt you both to the absolute ends of the earth for this!" I screamed furiously at my treacherous brother. Dante simply smiled calmly and pulled a small, black remote detonator from his expensive coat pocket. "You will not be hunting anyone ever again, little brother," Dante chuckled darkly, enjoying his moment of supreme victory. He pressed the button firmly, but absolutely nothing happened to the explosive charges he thought he had planted. Sarah looked down at her own chest, her face draining of all color as a bright red laser dot appeared directly over her heart. "Did you really think I came here without calling my own professional backup?" I whispered coldly into the silence.
