Chapter 6 - The Crossfire

A massive shower of shattered green glass and expensive red wine rained down upon the syndicate members.

Everyone turned in shock toward the dark corner of the cellar, completely distracted by the sudden explosion.

Eleanor stepped out from behind a hidden brick pillar, holding a massive, double-barreled hunting shotgun.

"Nobody is taking a single dime from this family!" Eleanor screamed, her eyes wide with absolute, unhinged madness.

She pumped the shotgun violently and fired a second blast directly at Valerius.

One of the tactical guards dove in front of his boss, taking the heavy spray of buckshot to his tactical vest.

The guard collapsed, and the entire cellar immediately erupted into a chaotic, deafening gunfight.

"Run!" I screamed at Maya, pulling her violently behind a massive oak wine barrel.

Automatic gunfire tore through the wooden racks, turning thousands of bottles into deadly shrapnel.

The floor quickly flooded with a slippery, deep red mixture of spilled wine and blood.

I could hear Charles screaming in agony as he crawled desperately across the broken glass toward the exit.

Adrian scrambled behind a stone pillar near us, covering his ears and sobbing like a terrified child.

Officer Miller tried to retrieve his dropped weapon from the floor, but a syndicate guard shot him twice in the chest.

Miller fell backward into a puddle of wine, his corrupt eyes staring lifelessly at the ceiling.

Valerius calmly retreated up the stone staircase, his surviving men providing heavy cover fire as they followed him.

"Burn the house down with them inside," Valerius commanded coldly from the top of the stairs.

The heavy steel cellar door slammed shut, and the broken deadbolt was forcefully jammed from the outside.

We were entirely trapped in the underground vault, surrounded by millions of dollars of ruined alcohol.

The smell of gasoline began to slowly leak through the ventilation grates near the ceiling.

Eleanor dropped her empty shotgun, staring blankly at the destruction she had just caused.

"We have to find another way out," Maya panicked, coughing as thick gray smoke began to fill the room.

I remembered the hidden brick pillar Eleanor had stepped out from during the ambush.

I rushed over to it and pressed my hands against the damp stone, searching frantically for a hidden release lever.

My fingers brushed against a rusted iron latch hidden behind a loose brick.

I pulled it hard, and a section of the wall slowly ground open, revealing a dark, narrow dirt tunnel.

Before I could push Maya inside, a pair of bloody hands violently grabbed me from behind and threw me to the floor.

Adrian stood over me, his face covered in a mask of pure, murderous rage.
