Chapter 9 - The Countermeasure

Daniel collapsed violently onto the expensive rug, clutching his crushed windpipe with both hands.
I kicked the lethal syringe far under the desk and stumbled out into the clean air of the hallway.
The intense dizziness slowly began to fade as I leaned heavily against the expensive wallpaper.
I reached into my dress and pulled out the offline device containing the scanned documents.
Victoria had been incredibly arrogant to assume I only brought one phone to a massive heist.
I quickly connected the device to the estate's own secure internal Wi-Fi network that I had hacked hours ago.
I immediately transmitted the entire horrifying folder directly to my senior director at the federal bureau.
Loud screams suddenly erupted from the grand ballroom directly below me.
I looked over the massive balcony and saw dozens of heavily armed federal agents swarming the elegant party.
The guests panicked wildly as the agents aggressively secured all the exits.
Richard Mercer forcefully pushed his way through the crowd, trying desperately to reach the hidden basement door.
An agent brilliantly tackled him to the marble floor, completely shattering his expensive whiskey glass.
Victoria stood frozen on the grand staircase, her pearl necklace breaking and scattering violently down the steps.
Daniel suddenly stumbled heavily out of the office behind me, holding the silver handgun from the greenhouse.
He wheezed violently as he aimed the shaking barrel directly at the back of my head.

He croaked that if his family was going down, I was absolutely coming with them.
Before he could pull the trigger, Richard screamed from the floor below and fired a hidden derringer entirely at his own son.
