Chapter 2 - The Freezing Rain

I threw my car into park and sprinted wildly up the wet driveway.

The freezing rain was already coming down in heavy, blinding sheets as the sun disappeared behind the trees.

Sarah was desperately pounding her fists against the heavy oak front door.

I could hear the muffled, terrified screams of the five children echoing from the other side of the thick wood.

I grabbed Sarah’s arm and pulled her back from the door before she completely bruised her fragile hands.

I fiercely yelled through the keyhole, commanding my son to open the door this exact second.

Mark’s arrogant voice floated through the cracked living room window, completely muffled by the heavy glass.

He coldly stated that Sarah needed to learn respect and could sleep in the cold garage like a stray dog.

A sudden, blinding wave of absolute fury completely consumed my entire mind and soul.

I did not raise a privileged, spoiled monster who abused women and terrified innocent children.

I marched directly toward the side of the house where the heavy stone garden decorations were displayed.

I picked up a massive, heavy concrete gnome with both of my shaking hands.

I walked straight up to the large, expensive custom bay window of his pristine living room.

Without a single second of hesitation, I violently hurled the heavy concrete statue directly through the glass.

The massive window shattered into a million jagged pieces with a deafening, incredibly satisfying crash.

Mark screamed in absolute shock as freezing rain and broken glass violently flooded his perfect living room.

I carefully kicked away the remaining shards of glass and gracefully stepped right through the broken window frame.

I grabbed Mark by the collar of his expensive designer shirt and forcefully shoved him against the living room wall.

I coldly informed him that I was taking his wife and all five of my grandchildren to my estate immediately.

He stammered and tried to push me away, but his pathetic cowardice was entirely visible in his wide eyes.

Sarah rushed quickly through the broken window, immediately gathering the terrified children into her warm arms.

We packed three large suitcases in less than fifteen minutes while Mark stood silently in the corner, completely paralyzed by my rage.

I loaded my grandchildren safely into my massive luxury SUV while Sarah buckled the twins into their car seats.

As I walked back to the front door to grab the last suitcase, I noticed a piece of paper sticking out of Mark’s discarded coat pocket.

I quickly pulled the heavy receipt out and scanned the printed text under the dim porch light.

It was a highly detailed receipt from a luxury jewelry boutique located downtown.

Mark had just spent thirty thousand dollars on a diamond tennis bracelet that very afternoon.

Sarah had absolutely not received any diamonds, which meant my terrible son was hiding a much darker secret.
