Chapter 8 - The Boarding

The jet engines whined louder, preparing to taxi down the runway and escape into the dark, stormy sky.

Arthur knew that if that plane left the ground, Vanessa would vanish forever with his stolen millions and her terrible secrets.

“I will distract the Chief of Police while you sneak up the back catering stairs,” Arthur whispered to Clara.

Clara nodded bravely, gripping a heavy, broken tree branch she had picked up in the woods as her only weapon.

She slipped into the deep shadows near the rear landing gear while Arthur boldly stepped out onto the illuminated tarmac.

“Is this how cheap justice is in this city, Chief?” Arthur yelled over the roaring engines.

The Chief of Police turned around, raising his tactical rifle toward the bleeding billionaire.

“Justice goes to the highest bidder, Mr. Sterling, and your fiancée pays exceptionally well,” the corrupt cop sneered.

As the Chief focused his entire attention on Arthur, Clara scrambled quietly up the metal catering stairs at the rear of the plane.

She slipped through the small galley door, entering the luxurious, wood-paneled cabin of the private jet.

Vanessa was frantically tossing her heavy bags onto a plush leather seat, cursing loudly at the pilot to hurry up.

Clara crept silently down the aisle, her heart hammering violently in her chest.

She raised the heavy tree branch, ready to strike the evil woman and end the nightmare once and for all.

Suddenly, the plane jerked forward violently as the pilot released the parking brakes.

Clara lost her balance and crashed into a crystal serving cart, sending expensive glasses shattering across the floor.

Vanessa spun around, her eyes widening in pure shock as she saw the bruised and muddy maid standing in her plane.

“You simply refuse to die like you are supposed to,” Vanessa hissed, pulling a silver pistol from her designer coat.

She aimed the weapon directly at Clara’s heart, her finger tightening dangerously on the trigger.

Before she could fire, the main cabin door was violently kicked open from the outside stairs.

Arthur lunged into the cabin, disarming Vanessa with a brutal strike to her wrist that sent the gun clattering away.

Vanessa screamed in frustration and backed away toward the front of the luxurious cabin.

She smiled a twisted, terrifying smile and slowly unbuttoned her expensive designer coat.

Strapped tightly across her chest was a thick, heavy vest wired entirely with blinking red explosives.
