Chapter 1 - The Broken Engagement
The sharp sound of the slap echoed like a gunshot through the opulent drawing room.
Vanessa crumbled to the hardwood floor, her manicured hands clutching her reddened cheek in absolute shock.
Arthur stood over her with cold fury burning in his dark eyes.
He had just witnessed the woman he was supposed to marry torturing his six-year-old son and the maid who dared to protect him.
“You wanted her to kneel?” Arthur asked, his voice dangerously low.
He shoved Vanessa’s shoulder, forcing her completely onto her knees right beside Clara.
“Now apologize to her.”
Vanessa stared up at him, her beautiful face twisted into an ugly mask of pure disbelief.
“I will never apologize to the help,” she hissed venomously.
Arthur did not yell, nor did he argue with her arrogance.
He simply reached down, grabbed her left hand, and violently yanked the four-carat diamond engagement ring off her finger.
Vanessa gasped, her arrogant facade shattering instantly.
“Arthur, please, I was just disciplining him,” she begged frantically, tears ruining her expensive makeup.
He ignored her desperate pleas and pulled his cell phone from his tailored suit pocket.
“Send the security team to the main drawing room immediately,” Arthur ordered into the phone.
He promised Vanessa that she would be thrown onto the street with absolutely nothing.
The heavy oak doors swung open, and three massive security guards marched into the room.
Arthur pointed a steady finger at his crying ex-fiancée.
“Escort this woman off my property and ensure she never returns.”
The lead security guard nodded slowly and pulled a pair of heavy zip-ties from his tactical belt.
But instead of walking toward Vanessa, the three giant men surrounded Arthur.
The lead guard grabbed Arthur’s arms, twisted them viciously behind his back, and secured the plastic cuffs.

Vanessa slowly stood up, wiping the fake tears from her eyes as a sinister smile spread across her face.
“Did you really think I would move into this house without buying the loyalty of your own men first?” Vanessa whispered.
