Chapter 8 - The Thorne Legacy

Julian looked at his brother, a twisted, maniacal smile on his face.

"You always were impossible to kill, Dom," Julian spat. He aimed the rifle directly at Leo. "But the boy is a loose end."

Dominic didn't hesitate. He stepped cleanly in front of his son and wife, shielding them entirely.

"It’s over, Julian," Dominic said, his voice eerily calm. "I have Vanessa’s confession. I have the wire transfers. The FBI is already raiding your offices in Manhattan."

Julian laughed. "You think I care about prison? If I can't have the empire, neither can your bastard child!"

Julian's finger tightened on the trigger.

BANG.

But it wasn't Julian’s rifle that fired.

Clara had reached around Dominic’s waist, pulling the backup pistol from his holster. She had fired a single, perfect shot.

The bullet struck Julian in the shoulder. He dropped the rifle, screaming in agony, collapsing to the floor in a pool of his own blood.

Dominic looked at Clara, utterly stunned by her bravery.

She lowered the gun, her hands shaking, but her eyes fierce. "Nobody threatens my son."

Marcus and the security team stormed the hallway, kicking Julian’s rifle away and placing the bleeding man in zip-ties.

"Call the police," Dominic ordered. "Tell them we have a confession for attempted murder and corporate espionage."
