Chapter 5 - Unraveling the Web

The next morning, Clara sat at a bank of high-tech monitors in the compound’s security room. Dominic’s tech team was struggling to locate Vanessa, who had supposedly moved to Europe three years ago.

"Let me try," Clara said, pushing a heavily tattooed hacker aside. Before Clara married Dominic, she had been a forensic accountant. She knew how to follow the money.

She hacked into the Thorne Industries' philanthropic accounts, bypassing the standard firewalls. "Julian wouldn't pay her from his personal accounts," Clara muttered, her fingers flying across the keyboard. "He’d use a shell company."

Dominic stood behind her, watching in awe as the brilliant woman he loved dismantled his company’s security in minutes.

"Got her," Clara said, pulling up a real estate deed. "She isn't in Europe. She’s living in a gated community in Boca Raton, Florida, under an LLC named 'Silver Lining.' Julian bought her a four-million-dollar mansion."

"Marcus," Dominic called out to his head of security. "Prep the jet. We’re going to Florida."

Before they left, Dominic walked into the bedroom where Leo was watching cartoons. He sat on the edge of the bed.

"I have to go away for a little bit, Leo," Dominic said softly.

Leo looked up, his gray eyes piercing. "Are you coming back? My mom cries when people don't come back."

Dominic felt a tear slip down his own cheek. He pulled the boy into a tight hug. "I promise you, son. I will always come back to you."
