Chapter 8 - The Bloody Escape

“Victoria,” Roman breathed out, the name escaping his lips like a dying prayer.

His supposedly dead wife didn't smile, nor did she look at the three newborn sons strapped in the back seat of the SUV.

Her eyes were locked entirely on the carrier holding Lily.

“Bring me my daughter, Roman,” Victoria demanded, her voice void of any maternal warmth.

“You faked your death,” Roman yelled, stepping forward, completely ignoring the guns pointed at him.

“You let me mourn you while you plotted with my worst enemy?”

Victoria’s expression hardened.

“I did what I had to do to secure the trust fund for myself,” she replied coldly.

“Kincaid helped me disappear, and in exchange, we split the money once Lily is legally in my custody.”

Roman’s devastation instantly transformed into a blinding, terrifying rage.

He didn't hesitate or try to negotiate anymore.

Roman pulled a hidden pistol from his ankle holster and fired directly at the man holding my sister hostage.

The guard dropped instantly, and Sarah screamed, falling to the concrete.

Gunfire immediately erupted from Kincaid’s hidden snipers on the hangar roof.

“Drive the car to the helicopter pad!” Roman roared at me, providing cover fire as he ran toward my sister.

I scrambled into the driver’s seat, slamming the gas pedal and speeding toward the secondary helipad behind the hangar.

I could see Roman lifting Sarah off the ground, dragging her toward the cover of a fuel truck.

A bullet shattered the SUV’s back window, sending glass raining down over the babies' car seats.

I swerved wildly, my heart stopping until I heard the furious cries of the triplets, confirming they were still alive.

I smashed the SUV through the chain-link fence and skidded to a halt next to a sleek black helicopter with its blades already spinning.

Roman’s loyal pilot jumped out, helping me load the babies and Lily into the armored cabin.

A minute later, Roman sprinted around the corner of the hangar, pushing my sister ahead of him.

He was bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to his side, his suit soaked in dark crimson.

Roman shoved Sarah into the helicopter and climbed in right behind her.

“Get us out of here!” Roman shouted to the pilot.

The helicopter lifted off the ground rapidly, leaving Kincaid and Victoria furious on the tarmac below.

I grabbed the medical kit from the wall and pressed thick gauze against Roman’s bleeding side.

Roman looked at me, his face growing incredibly pale as he pressed a heavy gold signet ring into my bloody hand.

“If I don't wake up,” Roman gasped, his eyes rolling back in his head.

“You are the head of the family now.”
