Chapter 10 - The Architect of Lies

Victoria turned to face me, holding a suppressed pistol leveled directly at my chest.
“You played the role of the protective mother very well, Clara,” Victoria sneered, moving toward Lily’s crib.
“But the show is over, and I am taking my children back.”
I didn't panic, nor did I reach for the alarm on the wall.
I simply tapped the heavy signet ring against the mahogany doorframe twice.
Instantly, the nursery lights flared on, and a dozen of Roman’s elite guards stepped out from the adjoining bathroom, their weapons drawn.
Salvatore stepped into the room beside me, his shotgun aimed squarely at Victoria’s head.
“The boss said nobody touches the children,” Salvatore growled, proving the capos’ loyalty to the ring.
Victoria’s confident smirk vanished completely as she realized she had walked into a trap.
She dropped her weapon, surrendering to the overwhelming force of the guards who quickly dragged her down to the mansion's holding cells.
I let out a massive breath, feeling a triumphant surge of adrenaline realizing I had finally neutralized the threat.
The babies were safe, Kincaid’s ally was captured, and I had successfully defended Roman’s empire.
Later that night, I walked into Roman’s private study to find Lily’s legal adoption papers to secure her safety permanently.
I unlocked his heavy floor safe using a combination Dante had carelessly mentioned earlier.
Inside, there were no adoption papers for the girl I had found seven months ago.
Instead, I found a stack of medical records from a fertility clinic I had visited three years ago when I desperately needed money to avoid eviction.
I pulled out the genetic testing reports for the newborn triplets and little Lily.
The biological mother listed on every single official document was Clara.

Roman didn't just stumble upon me on that train by accident.
He had engineered my entire tragedy, secretly tracking me for years, just to retrieve the true mother of his dynasty.
