Chapter 4 - The Traitor Inside

I stared at the photograph in absolute horror, the edges of the paper trembling in my hands.
Roman’s wife hadn’t just abandoned a child; she had violently orchestrated the drop-off.
“What did you find?” Roman asked, his deep voice echoing in the concrete bunker.
I turned around slowly, holding the photograph up so he could see his dead wife’s face.
Roman crossed the room in three massive strides and snatched the paper from my hand.
The color completely drained from his face as he stared at the image.
“This is impossible,” Roman muttered, pacing the length of the room.
“Victoria died on the operating table last week giving birth to the boys.”
“If she left Lily at that hospital seven months ago, whose baby is she?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper.
Before Roman could answer, the security monitors on the wall suddenly flared to life.
Dozens of armed men in tactical gear were surrounding the hidden bunker.
Silas Kincaid himself stood in front of the reinforced steel door, smiling directly into the camera.
“Someone sold us out,” Roman snarled, drawing his weapon.
“Only three people in my organization know the coordinates to this location.”
I looked over at Dante, who had suddenly become dangerously quiet in the corner of the room.
Dante slowly unholstered his pistol, but he didn’t aim it at the door.
He aimed it directly at the back of Roman’s head.
“Put the gun down, Roman,” Dante ordered, his voice cold and flat.
Roman froze, his eyes locking with mine in the reflection of the black monitor screens.
“How much did Kincaid pay you, Dante?” Roman asked, not lowering his weapon.
“Enough to buy an island,” Dante replied smoothly.
“But Kincaid doesn’t want your territory, Roman, and he doesn’t want the triplets.”
May you like
Dante shifted his aim toward the crib where my daughter was sleeping.
“He just wants the girl.”
