Chapter 6 - The Hostage

The shockwave of the explosion threw Roman down the shaft, landing heavily beside me on the dirt floor.
Dust and debris rained down on us as the bunker above completely collapsed.
Roman groaned, clutching his ribs, but quickly checked the three babies strapped to his chest.
Miraculously, the thick tactical harness had shielded them from the impact.
“Keep moving,” Roman gritted out, pushing himself up despite his obvious pain.
We ran through the dark, narrow tunnel for what felt like miles until we finally emerged near a deserted industrial access road.
A sleek black SUV was hidden beneath a camouflage tarp in a nearby trench.
Roman ripped the tarp away and ushered us into the armored vehicle.
He drove like a madman, tearing down the abandoned highway toward a private airstrip he owned in New Jersey.
In the back seat, I fed Jude and his brothers with the formula Roman had stashed in the vehicle, while Lily slept exhausted beside them.
For a brief, surreal moment, the billionaire crime boss and I sat in silence, listening to the gentle breathing of four safe children.
“I didn't know she existed,” Roman finally said, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
“Victoria hid the pregnancy from me because she knew my enemies would target a firstborn daughter.”
I looked at the back of Roman’s head, my heart breaking for the man who had lost so much.
“I won't let anyone take her from you,” I promised fiercely.
We arrived at the private airstrip just as the sun began to rise over the horizon.
A private jet was fueled and waiting on the runway, its engines whining loudly in the cold morning air.
But standing at the bottom of the aircraft's stairs was Silas Kincaid.
He wasn't flanked by an army of mercenaries this time.
He only had one man with him, holding a terrified woman at gunpoint.
I screamed as I recognized the hostage crying on the tarmac.
It was my younger sister, Sarah, who had been watching my apartment back in the city.
May you like
“Hello, Clara,” Kincaid smiled, holding his hands out in a welcoming gesture.
“You didn’t really think you found that baby by accident, did you?”
