Chapter 5 - The Firstborn Heir

The moment Dante’s gun pointed at Lily, Roman moved with lethal precision.
He spun around and fired a single shot from his hip before Dante could react.
The bullet struck Dante in the shoulder, spinning the massive lieutenant backward into the concrete wall.
Dante’s gun clattered to the floor, and Roman was instantly on top of him, pressing his forearm against the traitor’s throat.
“Why does Kincaid want the girl?” Roman roared, his face inches from Dante’s bleeding shoulder.
Dante coughed up blood, a twisted smile forming on his lips.
“Because Kincaid knows the rules of the Vale bloodline,” Dante wheezed.
“You don't just pass your empire to your sons, Roman.”
Roman’s grip tightened, and I saw real fear flash across the billionaire’s eyes for the first time.
“The firstborn daughter inherits the hidden trust,” Dante choked out.
“Billions of dollars, untraceable, unlocked only by her DNA.”
My world spun wildly as the terrifying reality of Dante’s words crashed into me.
Lily wasn't just a random baby I had saved from the cold streets of Queens.
She was Roman’s firstborn daughter, born during the month his wife was missing.
“Kincaid wants to adopt her to control the money,” Dante laughed weakly.
Roman struck Dante across the jaw, knocking the traitor completely unconscious.
“We have to move right now,” Roman ordered, turning back to the security monitors.
Kincaid’s men were attaching heavy explosives to the bunker’s main steel door.
Roman rushed to a hidden panel in the floor and pulled up a heavy metal grate, revealing an old prohibition-era escape tunnel.
I grabbed Lily’s carrier and slung the diaper bag over my shoulder, my adrenaline surging.
Roman carefully strapped the three newborn boys to his chest using a tactical harness.
“Go down the ladder, Clara,” Roman instructed, handing me a heavy flashlight.

I climbed down into the damp darkness, clutching my daughter tightly against my chest.
Just as Roman stepped onto the top rung of the ladder, the bunker door above us exploded in a blinding flash of fire.
