Chapter 6 - The Architect of Lies

Caroline stood in the doorway with tears streaming down her pale face.
Her hands were shaking but she kept the heavy barrel of the shotgun aimed at my heart.
She begged me to put the medical file down and step away from the safe.
I refused to move and demanded to know what my real name was.
She choked back a sob and said my name did not matter anymore because we were out of time.
I asked her why she had lied to me every single day for the past five years.
She confessed that she was hired by a shadowy syndicate to keep me neutralized.
I was supposedly their most lethal asset before I turned against them and tried to run.
They erased my mind and forced Caroline to construct a fake suburban life around me.
She was ordered to keep Maya locked in the walls as leverage in case I ever woke up.
Lily was just another orphaned child they placed in the house to complete the perfect illusion.
Caroline insisted that over the years she had actually fallen in love with our fake family.
She claimed she was secretly packing bags upstairs so we could all run away tonight.
I pointed at the unconscious man in the basement and asked who he was working for.
Caroline stated that the syndicate had discovered her betrayal and sent cleaners to erase us.
I looked into her desperate eyes and honestly did not know if I could trust a single word.
She slowly lowered the shotgun and pleaded with me to grab the children and flee.
She said we only had a few minutes before the rest of the hit squad arrived.
Suddenly the peaceful silence of the neighborhood was shattered by roaring engines.
Bright white headlights flooded through the living room windows completely blinding us.
Three massive black SUVs violently smashed through the wooden fence in our front yard.
Armed men in tactical gear began pouring out of the vehicles and surrounding the house.
Caroline dropped the shotgun and screamed that they had found us far too soon.
May you like
I realized that we were completely trapped inside a fragile house made of glass and lies.
A heavy battering ram smashed into the front door splintering the thick wood.
