Chapter 7 - The Impossible Choice

The revelation that the brother was still alive breathed a new, dangerous fire into my soul.

I wiped the tears from Emma’s face and told her we were going to end this war tonight.

I gathered the remaining ten men of my elite personal guard in the ruined foyer.

We armed ourselves with suppressed submachine guns, combat knives, and breaching explosives.

My hackers had traced the signal from Kolov’s cell phone to a private marina in Brooklyn.

Kolov was hiding on a massive, heavily armored luxury yacht preparing to leave international waters.

I ordered my men to load into the stealth transport vans immediately.

We drove through the deserted city streets, avoiding the police sirens rushing toward the burning casino.

We arrived at the docks and moved silently through the freezing fog.

The yacht was illuminated by harsh floodlights, guarded by mercenaries walking the deck.

We eliminated the outer guards with synchronized, suppressed sniper fire.

I led my team up the boarding ramp and infiltrated the lower deck of the ship.

We cleared the narrow hallways room by room, leaving a trail of dead Russians in our wake.

I kicked open the heavy mahogany doors to the master suite on the top deck.

Kolov was sitting in a leather chair, casually pouring a glass of expensive vodka.

I did not give him a chance to speak or negotiate.

I raised my rifle and shot him directly in both kneecaps.

Kolov screamed and collapsed onto the Persian rug, his glass shattering into a hundred pieces.

I stood over him and demanded the exact location of the family.

Kolov smiled a sickening, bloody smile and pressed a button on his gold watch.

He whispered that the family was locked in the ship’s engine room.

He laughed as a massive explosion rocked the hull, and he announced the yacht would sink in exactly two minutes.
