Chapter 4 - The Blood Tie

I did not move a single muscle as the barrel of the revolver hovered inches from my face.

Lucia explained that our father had made a secret pact with the Russian syndicate years ago.

He had promised them absolute control of the Brooklyn shipping ports.

I had destroyed that arrangement the moment I took over the family business.

Lucia claimed she was simply honoring our father’s true legacy.

She told me Kolov was going to help her take control of the Castellano empire.

I asked her if she really believed a monster like Kolov would share power with anyone.

She laughed and said she was not planning on sharing.

I saw her finger tighten slightly on the trigger.

I dropped to my knees in a fraction of a second just as the suppressed weapon coughed.

The bullet shattered the wooden doorframe right where my head had been.

I swept my leg out and kicked Lucia’s ankles, sending her crashing onto the hardwood floor.

I lunged forward and pinned her arms down, wrestling the revolver from her grip.

She fought like a wild animal, screaming curses at me in Italian.

Marco rushed down the hallway and helped me drag my own sister down to the estate’s basement.

We locked her inside the heavy steel holding cell I used for my worst enemies.

I stared at her through the iron bars, feeling a profound sense of heartbreak.

I asked her where Kolov was keeping Emma’s family.

Lucia wiped blood from her lip and smiled a wicked, triumphant smile.

She told me I was already far too late to save anyone.

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small electronic detonator.

She laughed and revealed that she had given Kolov the security override codes to my front gates an hour ago.

Before I could demand an explanation, the deafening wail of the perimeter alarms echoed through the mansion.
