Chapter 9 - The DNA Ultimatum

A heavy, suffocating silence descended upon the grand courtroom as the judge's explosive announcement echoed through the air.
Marcus leaped out of his expensive leather chair, pointing a shaking, accusatory finger directly at my face.
“I knew it!” Marcus screamed dramatically, putting on an incredible performance for the stunned judge.
“She has been lying to me for years, Your Honor, and she is trying to extort me for money that does not even belong to her!”
I stared at him, genuinely marveling at the boundless, disgusting depths of his cowardly manipulation.
He had obviously submitted the anonymous tip himself, desperately trying to invalidate our marriage and muddy the waters before his own crimes were exposed.
Chloe calmly placed her hand on my shoulder, gently pressing me back into my seat before turning to address the bench.
“Your Honor, my client absolutely denies this ridiculous, desperate accusation fabricated by a man trying to hide his own guilt,” Chloe stated with a dangerously calm voice.
“In fact, we welcome this challenge and formally request that immediate, court-ordered DNA tests be administered to everyone involved.”
The judge nodded thoughtfully, clearly sensing the deeply rooted toxicity of the situation playing out before him.
“I agree,” the judge said, raising his gavel.
“I am ordering immediate DNA swabs for Mr. Miller, Mrs. Miller, and the minor child Lily.”
“We also demand that Vanessa Sterling and her son Ethan be subjected to the exact same court-ordered DNA test,” Chloe added quickly, striking like a venomous snake.
Marcus froze, his eyes widening in pure panic as he violently shook his head.
“That is completely unnecessary and highly inappropriate!” Marcus yelled, his carefully crafted facade finally cracking under the pressure.
Vanessa, sitting directly behind Marcus in the gallery, suddenly began to weep uncontrollably, her perfectly styled hair falling into her face.
“Your Honor, please, you cannot force my son to take a DNA test,” Vanessa sobbed violently, standing up and gripping the wooden railing.
The judge narrowed his eyes, his vast judicial experience immediately recognizing the profound guilt radiating from the sobbing woman.
“Mrs. Sterling, you are voluntarily present in this courtroom, and I suggest you explain your sudden distress before I hold you in contempt,” the judge warned strictly.
Vanessa looked at Marcus, her eyes filled with a mixture of profound pity and absolute terror.
“I lied to you, Marcus,” Vanessa confessed, her voice shaking so badly she could barely form the words.
“I needed money to pay off my debts, so I forged the clinic results to make you believe Ethan was your biological son.”
Marcus stumbled backward as if he had just been physically shot in the chest, his entire world completely collapsing into dust.
He had ruined his marriage, abandoned his daughter, and borrowed cartel money for a child who was not even his.
“If Marcus is not the father, then who is?” the judge demanded, completely losing his patience with the absurd drama.

Vanessa covered her face with her trembling hands, letting out a horrific wail of absolute despair.
“His real father is Alejandro Delgado, the brutal cartel boss who just lent Marcus the money to buy my corporate promotion.”
