Chapter 5 - The Silent Alarm

Cameron stared at the dark barrel of the gun, her mind racing for a way out.
The head of security had been bought off by Silas Kincaid.
Matteo was completely surrounded by traitors in his own home.
“You don't have to do this,” Cameron whispered, raising her hands slowly.
“If I disappear on my first night, the agency will call the police.”
The guard smirked and stepped closer, pressing the gun against her ribs.
“Women like you disappear in this city every single day.”
“Walk toward the service elevator, right now.”
Cameron moved slowly, her brain calculating the distance to the nearest panic button.
She had noticed a small red switch under the kitchen island earlier that evening.
As they passed the open kitchen, Cameron pretended to trip over the corner of the rug.
She fell hard onto the marble floor, dragging the guard down with her.
Before he could recover, she kicked the gun out of his hand.
It slid across the slippery floor and disappeared beneath the expensive refrigerator.
Cameron scrambled to her feet and slammed her hand against the red panic button under the counter.
Instantly, a deafening alarm began blaring throughout the massive penthouse.
Flashing strobe lights dropped from the ceiling, plunging the room into chaotic, blinding flashes.
The guard cursed violently and lunged at her, grabbing her by the throat.
He slammed her back against the marble counter, cutting off her air supply.
Black spots began to dance at the edges of her vision.
Suddenly, a heavy crystal vase shattered over the guard’s head.
The man collapsed to the floor in a heap of blood and broken glass.
Cameron fell to her knees, gasping desperately for oxygen.
She looked up to see who had saved her life.
Standing above her, holding the broken stem of the vase, was Matteo Duca.
“What the hell is going on in my house?” Matteo roared over the blaring alarm.
May you like
Cameron pointed a shaking finger toward the hallway leading to the blue room.
“Silas Kincaid is inside that room with your wife.”
