Chapter 5 - The Hostage Flight
The violent explosion threw Viktor backward, completely engulfing the corrupt guards in bright orange flames.
The intense heat forced the fire sprinklers to activate, raining cold water down on the chaotic garage.
Damon ignored his agonizing wounds and sprinted through the smoke toward Alina.
He scooped her fragile body into his strong arms, holding her tightly against his chest.
They ran desperately toward the secondary service elevator leading to the roof of the mansion.
Damon smashed the glass panel with his elbow and hotwired the elevator controls with bloody fingers.
The metal doors closed just as Viktor's surviving men flooded the garage with automatic gunfire.
The elevator slowly carried them upward, the mechanical gears groaning under the strain.
Alina gently touched Damon's face, wiping the soot and blood from his sharp cheekbones.
He leaned into her soft touch, realizing she was the only pure thing left in his dark world.
"I will never let them hurt you, Alina," he vowed, his deep voice thick with absolute conviction.
The elevator doors chimed and slid open onto the freezing, wind-swept roof of the estate.
A massive black helicopter was already waiting on the helipad, its rotors spinning loudly.
Damon dragged her toward the aircraft, hoping his loyal pilot was still inside.
Suddenly, a bright spotlight from the helicopter blinded them, pinning them in place.
The side door of the chopper slid open, revealing Viktor holding an assault rifle.
He had completely anticipated their escape route and beaten them to the roof.
Viktor ordered his men to grab Alina, ripping her violently from Damon's desperate grip.
Damon fought like a wild beast, but the severe blood loss finally forced him to his knees.
Viktor dragged Alina into the helicopter and ordered the pilot to take off immediately.

As the chopper lifted into the dark sky, Alina looked down at the pilot's face in absolute horror.
The man flying Viktor's getaway helicopter was her own missing brother, Leo.
