Chapter 3 - The Traitor Revealed

Damon immediately shoved Alina behind him and raised his silver pistol.
The heavy steel door slid open to reveal the dark underground parking garage of the estate.
A figure stepped into the dim light, holding an automatic rifle aimed directly at them.
It was Sloan, the head cook who had made Alina's coffee just that morning.
Alina gasped in pure disbelief, unable to process the betrayal of her only friend in the mansion.
"I am so sorry, princess," Sloan said, her voice completely devoid of any emotion.
Damon kept his gun perfectly leveled at the cook's chest without flinching.
"Who paid you to sell me out, Sloan?" Damon demanded, his voice echoing like cold thunder.
Sloan slowly lowered her weapon, revealing her hands were shaking violently.
"I didn't sell you out, boss," she whispered, kicking a dead assassin's body out of the shadows.
Sloan explained that she had killed the intruder and used his radio to find their escape route.
She told them that Damon's most trusted underboss, Viktor, had orchestrated this entire bloody coup.
Viktor had bribed half the guards and was currently hunting Damon room by room.
Damon lowered his weapon slightly, realizing the scale of the deadly betrayal.
He told Alina they needed to reach his bulletproof SUV parked on the far side of the garage.
Sloan volunteered to provide cover fire while they made a desperate run for the vehicle.
Alina stayed close to Damon's broad back as they sprinted across the cold concrete floor.
Gunfire suddenly erupted from the upper stairwell, echoing loudly through the massive garage.
Sloan returned fire, screaming for Damon to get Alina out of the mansion alive.
Damon reached the heavy black SUV and ripped the passenger door open for Alina.
