Chapter 10 - The New Empire

Six months later.

The VIP maternity suite at Manhattan General Hospital was a gilded cage, but Clara Lancaster—formerly Rostova—did not fear it anymore. She walked past the room where her nightmare had begun five years ago, not feeling a shred of the terror that used to haunt her.

She walked into the executive boardroom on the top floor of the newly rebranded Obsidian-Lancaster Tower.

The heavy oak table was polished to a mirror shine. The sycophants and the cowards of the old board were gone, replaced by ruthless, loyal strategists Clara had hand-picked.

Silas sat at the head of the table, reviewing a digital portfolio. He looked up as Clara walked in, a genuine smile breaking through his normally hardened features.

"The merger with the Asian shipping conglomerate is finalized," Silas announced, tossing a sleek silver pen onto the table. "Our stock is up twenty percent this quarter. The old empire is officially dead. The new one is thriving."

"And Julian?" Clara asked, taking the seat to his right.

"Working as a mid-level logistics manager for a competitor in Ohio," Silas chuckled darkly. "Vivienne divorced him the second the money dried up. Genevieve’s lawyers are still trying to appeal her extradition, but she’s running out of retainer fees."

Clara nodded, feeling a profound, quiet peace settle over her soul. Vengeance was a heavy burden, but she had carried it to the finish line.

The heavy doors of the boardroom swung open.

Little Leo, dressed in a tiny, bespoke suit, ran into the room, holding a toy boat. "Mommy! Uncle Silas! Look what I built!"

Clara’s heart soared. She scooped her son up into her arms, kissing his cheek. Silas stood up, walking over and ruffling the boy's dark hair with a softness reserved entirely for him.

They weren't a conventional family. They were a family forged in betrayal, exiled by greed, and bound together by an unbreakable loyalty.

Clara looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the sprawling Manhattan skyline. The city that had once tried to crush her was now beneath her feet. She had walked into the fire as a sacrificial lamb, but she had walked out as the undisputed Queen.

The ghosts of her past were finally silenced, and the future belonged entirely to her.
