Chapter 6 - The Maid's Ambush

Maya grabbed a heavy, metal fire extinguisher from the wall of the panic room.
She told Alexander to stay awake and promised she would return with exactly what they needed.
She quietly unlocked a secondary ventilation hatch in the ceiling and hoisted herself up into the ductwork.
Crawling through the narrow, metallic air vents was terrifying, but Maya knew the layout by heart.
She navigated blindly above the ceilings until she heard Victoria's shrill, commanding voice.
Looking down through a brass grate, Maya saw Victoria standing in the grand library.
Victoria was screaming at her mercenaries, ordering them to blow the panic room door wide open.
She foolishly sent all her armed guards away, assuming she was completely safe in the empty library.
Maya waited until the heavy oak doors closed, leaving the cruel socialite entirely alone.
Maya kicked the brass grate loose, dropping silently onto the plush Persian rug behind Victoria.
Before the socialite could turn around, Maya swung the heavy fire extinguisher at the back of her knees.
Victoria shrieked in pain and collapsed onto the floor, her designer dress tangling around her legs.
Maya pinned the struggling woman down and grabbed her right hand with fierce determination.
She pulled a piece of clear, sticky forensic tape from her pocket, which she used for dusting antiques.
She pressed the tape firmly against Victoria's thumb, successfully lifting a perfect, pristine fingerprint.
Maya smiled triumphantly, holding the clear tape up to the library light.
Victoria suddenly stopped struggling and began to laugh, a manic and deeply disturbing sound.

She reached into her cleavage and pulled out a small, blinking black detonator.
"You might have my print, but you'll never leave this palace alive," Victoria sneered as she pressed the red button.
