Chapter 5 - The Fingerprint

Alexander collapsed heavily against the dusty brick wall, clutching his bleeding chest.

Maya caught his broad shoulders, using all her strength to keep him from hitting the hard floor.

The armed mercenaries were shouting commands, their heavy boots stomping closer through the broken wall.

Maya dragged the wounded billionaire into a small, reinforced panic room meant for the royal family's staff.

She slammed the heavy steel door shut and aggressively threw the manual locking bolt into place.

Bullets immediately began ricocheting off the thick metal door from the hallway outside.

Alexander coughed violently, his face turning dangerously pale as he handed the USB drive back to Maya.

He told her that the security terminal was right here inside the panic room.

Maya rushed over to the sleek black computer console and plugged the titanium drive into the port.

The screen flashed bright red, displaying a highly complex biometric security lock.

The system demanded a specific, authorized fingerprint to begin the decryption process.

Maya looked desperately at Alexander, hoping his biometric data would bypass the firewall.

He shook his head weakly, his breathing becoming increasingly shallow and ragged.

He whispered that the drive belonged to Victoria's family, so only her fingerprint could unlock the cure.

Maya realized with absolute dread that they were trapped in a room with a dying man.

To save Alexander and his mother, she would have to unlock that drive right now.

That meant the terrified maid would have to go back out there and hunt the vicious socialite herself.
