Chapter 6 - The Blood Connection

The silence that followed my declaration was heavier than anything I had ever experienced.
Lorenzo stared at Leo, tracing the baby's features with trembling, hesitant fingers.
"It makes perfect sense," I cried, tears spilling freely onto Leo's soft blanket.
"He rejected every donor milk and every formula because he was desperately craving his biological mother."
Lorenzo stepped back, wiping a rogue tear from his own cheek.
"Sophia faked her pregnancy for nine months using silicone prosthetics," Lorenzo deduced angrily.
"She hired Julian to impregnate you, waiting perfectly until your due date to steal the child."
The betrayal was so deep and incredibly twisted that it made me physically sick to my stomach.
Julian had never loved me; he had only used me as an incubator for Sophia's insane plot.
"But why did she leave Leo here to die?" I asked, completely heartbroken for my son.
"Because the car bomb wasn't fake," Lorenzo replied, his eyes turning cold and lethal.
"My enemies genuinely tried to kill her, and she had to flee the country immediately."
"She couldn't take a newborn on the run, so she left him here to inherit my empire."
Lorenzo pulled out a sterile medical kit from the bunker's emergency supplies.
He gently swabbed the inside of Leo's cheek and then handed a swab to me.
"We need to be absolutely certain," Lorenzo stated gently.
He placed the samples into a rapid DNA sequencing machine located in the medical bay.
We sat in agonizing silence for thirty minutes while the machine processed the genetic codes.
When the screen finally beeped, the bright green text illuminated the dark room.
The result confirmed a 99.9% probability of maternity.
Leo was undeniably my biological son.
I broke down, burying my face in Leo's neck and kissing his soft skin repeatedly.
Lorenzo placed a strong, comforting hand on my shoulder, sharing in my overwhelming relief.
Suddenly, the heavy steel doors of the bunker groaned loudly.
Matteo stepped into the room, holding his pistol aimed directly at Lorenzo's head.

"I am sorry, Boss," Matteo sneered.
"But Sophia wants her baby back, and she pays much better than you do."
